How to become a Real Estate Agent

Selling real estate has very little to do with what you see on HGTV – it is a professional sales career with a number of educational requirements and plenty of mandatory training. The primary courses are done as a home study – we’ve seen people complete them as fast as 3 months when they dedicate full time efforts to it but most people take a year or 2 in their spare time too go through the licensing process.
Once the licensing process is complete then you have to choose a brokerage to work under. You do have to work under a broker to begin with although some agents move to gaining their own broker designation and then can then go out on their own and start an independent brokerage.
Step 1 in getting a real estate license in Saskatchewan is to complete your education. Step 2 is to get registered with a brokerage. Below here is all the info on doing the classes so you can get registered.
There are 3 organizations involved with Organized Real Estate in Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission (SREC) is the provincial legislative body which governs & directs the licensing, education, and continuing professional development of all soon-to-be and existing registrants. The Saskatchewan REALTORS® Association (SRA) is a professional association representing over 1600 REALTORS® in Saskatchewan and they also have some great information on getting into the real estate industry. All REALTORS® in Saskatchewan are members of this association:

The time frame on getting the courses done for most people is usually between 6 months and 2 years depending on how fast you work and if you have a regular full-time job while you are taking the courses. The total costs from registering for the phase 1 and residential phase 2 courses, through paying the startup fees for SREC & SRA, until you’ll be able to sell your first house is about $6000. As an option, you can also complete the phase 2 courses for Commercial and Farm sales at a cost of about $900 each. These can be done at any time in the future once you have completed the residential course.
